Crofty Maths Challenge Y3 & 4

Crofty Maths Challenge Y3 & 4

Despite the wind and the rain threatening to cancel the event, the Year 3&4 Crofty Maths Challenge was held on Tuesday this week. Nine of our MAT schools were in attendance and the day was a roaring success. Portreath came out on top this time with a huge score of 130, with Roskear only 2 points behind on 128 and Illogan taking 3rd place with 125! All the children did incredibly well over the whole day. A massive thank you also needs to go to Roskear’s Year 5 helpers, who once again did an amazing job of helping the day run smoothly. Our next event, for the Year 5&6s, will be held in June.

Shanghai Maths Teachers visit to Treloweth School

Treloweth Primary School in Illogan, Redruth were the very proud hosts to two visiting maths teachers from Shanghai, China. The programme aims to support the principals of teaching for mastery and give educationalists a better understanding of good questioning, small step development and lesson design. Many teachers and specialists consider China as the leaders and pioneers of mastery maths teaching and so Miss Jen and Miss Jess’s visit provided many south- west teachers with a once in a lifetime opportunity to observe their practice first hand.   Two lucky classes at Treloweth (part of the Crofty Trust) were chosen to be…

Plastic Free Schools

Plastic Free Schools

The school is very proud to have been the sixth school in the country to have been awarded ‘Plastic Free School’ status.  Here is a video about some of our Plastic Free work that we have undertaken alongside Surfers Against Sewage. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMseMDZUcaI&feature=youtu.be The video footage was filmed when Mrs Pamplin and Miss Rundle took eight pupils to London to present at an ‘All Party Parliamentary Group’ meeting at 1 Parliament Street.  It was an incredibly proud moment for the school when the children spoke with confidence to a room full of people about what our school has done to reduce single use plastic, and to encourage others to do the same. They also handed out leaflets they had created to MPs. Since then we have had a personal mention in…
