The intergenerational scheme struck a chord with a teacher in Camborne and she’s made it happen.
Do you know what strokes mean?”, asks Lenny, a nursing home resident.
“Yeah,” replied primary school pupil Lea.
“I’ve had five of them” smiled Lenny. “But I’m still here and I keep going, because I have grandchildren who I don’t see, but you lot – you’re my grandchildren. Because you’re lovely.”
That’s just one of the heartwarming exchanges between the elderly residents of a Camborne nursing home and young primary school children who have been visiting them since the start of the year.
Katy Williams, teacher and Council Lead at Roskear Primary and Nursery School, was inspired to set up the visits after watching a Channel Four programme over the summer holidays last year
